Thanks Mom and Dad

Dear Dad (and Mom),
This was unexpected. And perfect. I cried. And smiled too. Love you!

Fall

Harper and I raked some leaves on Saturday (after a cold morning soccer game). The leaf pile wasn't big enough to jump in....

After discovering the lack of leaf jumping opportunity, we decided to draw some Halloween decorations on the sidewalk. Witches, jack-o-lanterns, ghosts ....boo!

In the afternoon, we played hung the ghost out front. [Harper named him Car].

Then we played outside some more, planted some mums, and did various other errands around the house. At the end of it all, even Jordy was tired.

At the end of the night, T and I enjoyed a fire on the patio with some tunes from Boogie Wonderland (thanks to the Our Lady Peace fall festival).

Northbound Smokehouse and Brewpub

A new brewpub in the neighborhood? Of course.

We stopped in naturally.
Excellent food: smoked fish and cheese for T, salad for me.
Beer: Big Jim IPA for both of us.

Yum! We will be back.

My new favorite magazine: The Atlantic.

Check it out. I subscribed to use up airlines miles. Now I read it cover to cover. Smart.

What the Focus?

I'm taking part in the Lululemon What the Focus 30-day challenge.

http://www.lululemon.com/community/blog/what-the-focus/#

It totally fits with the mission of this blog. Take pictures. Document life.

The challenge provides a "theme" for every day. Take a picture and post to Instagram with the hashtag #wtfsept. I admit I don't get one up every day, but it is fun when something presents itself in the theme for the day.

a pretty good Saturday

It started with H's soccer. Sully got into the game by sitting on the ball like the big kids do.

Then Sully and I were off to Target Field to take in a late season game with Nicole and Leo. The boys had fun stomping on the peanut shells and hitting themselves in the head with the foam finger. Nicole and I had a little time to catch up .....and none of us really watched the game (which is ok since the Twins are pretty stinky). Sully was a trooper until the 6th inning and then decided he wanted to go.

Post game, we met up with the rest of the gang at September Fest (at Annunciation Church and School -- where the kids go to school/pre-school). H had "crazy church hair" in the color called rainbow. The kids rode rides. T and I rode the octopus with both kids separately. H loved it. Sully did not.

when fall arrives...

I love fall. A bike ride around the lake. Cooler temps. Falling leaves. Sweet.

dinner vs the picky eater, round 1

Score 1 for dinner! Harper likes the homemade black bean burgers.

She informed everyone that black bean burgers are now an option for dinner. Other options include hot dogs, brats, and bologna sandwiches with the crusts off.

a case of the Mondays

Not only were we still smarting from the Packer loss on Sunday, then this happened.

Jordy cornered a cat in the yard. Two non-cat lovers had to somehow coax a cat out from behind shrubs. No idea where it came from (and it had no collar). After it realized there was no longer a banana dog trying to get it, it made its way out the front gate and never looked back.

The rest of the day was a mishmash of work, errands, ups and downs. Of course it ended with a whiffle ball game. ...'cause that's how this life goes.

Superheroes!

battle royale

Ariel vs Jordy. Jordy won.

Another work trip - Orlando

Just what you want after a nice, long weekend -- a work conference in Orlando. I flew down late on Tuesday night, so was exhausted on Wednesday morning. ...but up early nonetheless.

I stayed at Coronado Springs, which I'm sure is quite nice. However, I only experience it in order to sleep at night and walk back and forth to the shuttle first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

Still, the sunrise was pretty every morning.

Overall, the conference had good content. I spent lots of time with clients. And I learned a good deal, got a chance to think from a different perspective. One highlight from the session was the Guinness World Record attempt for longest continuous handshake chain. We managed it with 2380 people. So I am now a world record holder!!

Wednesday night was filled with receptions. Having arrived late the night before, I headed back to my room early to watch the start of NFL season. ...and subsequently fall asleep somewhere around halftime.

Thursday morning was gorgeous too.

Thursday's agenda: sessions, lunch, sessions, sessions, dinner. I did walk outside for about 15 minutes after the last session and before dinner. It felt good to be out of A/C for a bit!

Dinner was good despite bad, slow service. That managed to score us some free drinks at the end of the night....

Friday I had an early flight home. Thanks to the magic of Disney, I was at the airport WAY before my flight took off.

labor day weekend

T, kids and Jordy left for the cabin on Friday afternoon.

Jennie, Syd, Cass and Leo arrived on Friday night. Upon arrival, Leo checked out the place. As did the girls and they chose which room they would sleep in for the weekend. Very exciting.

Saturday we were up early and went out to breakfast at the Town Hall Tap -- great chicken toes and pancakes (and bacon and hashbrowns)! After brunch, we took the long way downtown to the Mill City Market to find some veggies for dinner. Along the way, we passed by the University of Minnesota campus. The girls posed for a picture to send to Paige, who was moving in that weekend for the start of the school year.

We eventually made our way to the market, where we browsed, bought some corn, goofed around and got balloon animals.

Since it was a bright, sunny day we made our way over to Lake Nokomis. The girls played on the playground before making their way into the water for a bit. Cass decided to do more playing and made friends with some kids building a sandcastle. Syd chilled with Jennie and I.

We came home for happy hour and dinner. After the girls were in bed, my sister and I discovered Downton Abbey and were hooked after the first episode.

Sunday everyone slept in. Jennie and I lazed over breakfast and coffee while the girls played on their own. Then we scooted over to the playground, where the girls zipped and posed for pictures with Leo.

We lunched at the Malt Shoppe, then stopped in at Patina for some browsing.

Then we went to Target so the girls could each pick out some new earrings. Exciting!

Back home for happy hour and dinner again.

Sunday night was more Downton Abbey for Jennie and I.

Monday morning everyone slept in AGAIN! We had breakfast at home, played soccer in the yard and scooted to the store, stopping for lemonade on the way home. They packed up and headed out after lunch.

Chicago. Beer.

Where did I leave off? I can't believe it has been that long since I posted anything. Rolling along on the river of life, I guess.

I was in Chicago for work for a couple days. I stayed in my old neighborhood. And I walked around to some of my favorite spots.

Jack's old swimming hole -

After an hour or so of walking, I stopped in to (hopefully) pick up some beer that isn't available in Mpls. I picked up some Founder's All Day IPA, which is a delightful and delicious brew. I wish I would have brought more home with me than just 6. I also snagged a Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Black Rye PA (I think that was the name). T has been wanting to try something from Firestone, as it has been in several blogs and articles as of late. He was excited to try it and impressed.

Finally I chose a Green Flash IPA to pair with my take-away Pad Thai (from Ma&I). The beer was good and strong; the pad thai was great.
